Social [practice] #13: Talismans and Totems

Due to the announcement of a second lockdown, this event is postponed. A new date will be announced as soon as it is confirmed, and original tickets will remain valid. Our box office team will be getting in touch with all ticket holders to let them know more details. We thank you for your patience with us as a reduced team works through these events.

Places are limited and pre-booking is required. To learn about the Covid-19 safety measures we have put in place please read the following information about your visit to Exeter Phoenix >>

SOCIAL [PRACTICE]

Social [practice] offers an alternative platform for artists and creative producers to meet and make together in a series of practical projects hosted by creative practitioners. Along the way it aims to explore sharing, meeting & making, hosting, skill-exchanges and collaborative practice, often easing in with a sociable drink or two for good measure.

Collage Club

In response to the Covid-19 situation, Exeter Phoenix temporarily closed to the public meaning we had to put our sessions on hold. Now as we carefully begin to welcome the public back into the building, we are able to reintroduce Covid-adapted workshops that it was not possible to offer earlier this year, starting with continuing our Collage Club sessions.

This series of events explores the process of collage as a strategy for making and bringing disparate ideas and materials together to make something new. Collage Club was devised by graphic designer and quiz host extraordinaire Abi Will and illustrator and maker Scotty Gillespie.

Talismans & Totems

A full day of creative fun using clay to construct some small personal totems. Collage together a chorus of characters drawing on whatever inspires you from popular culture the natural world or the depths of your own imagination.

  • Morning session | 10.30am – 12.30pm
Introduction to Scotty’s work a followed by designing and creating your clay totems
  • Lunch | 12.30pm – 2pm
A chance to take a break inside or out and let your clay creations dry ready for an afternoon of decorating.
  • Afternoon session | 2pm – 4pm
Make the totems your own, develop your characters and decorate with a range of glazes.

Scotty will take your finished pieces and fire them, posting them out to you with a Riso print certificate as a memento of the day.

The price of this session includes all materials, firing and postage of your finished piece.
